With America’s Independence Day and National Picnic Month both on the calendar, opportunities abound for members of the Villas at Carrington Square community to enjoy food, fun, and fireworks in Overland Park, Kansas, this July!
Celebrate The Fourth Of July At Corporate Woods Founders’ Park
Plan to celebrate our great nation with your family and friends by enjoying an evening of concerts, food. and fireworks at the Overland Park Star Spangled Spectacular at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park on July 4, 2024.
Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with live music– Green Shoebox Band, Howard Mahan, The Champagne Band, and Justus West—and food trucks. Everyone is encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, food, water, and coolers (but no alcohol or pop-up tents); and, dogs are allowed but must remain on a leash at all times. The mesmerizing fireworks display will light up the night beginning at 10:05 p.m., choreographed to patriotic music and creating a dazzling spectacle you won't want to miss!
Note: Visitors can enter Corporate Woods Founders’ Park at any time on Independence Day, and parking is available in any open Corporate Woods parking lot.
Have plans on the 4th? How about the Red, White and Bluhawk event on the 3rd from 7:30pm-10pm.

National Picnic Month
Sometimes summer sunshine just screams out for a picnic, which is probably why the American Bakers Association picked July as National Picnic Month way back in 1952.
The Villas at Carrington Square Idea Specialists™ did a little research and found that the word picnic comes from the French word piquenique, which eventually came to refer to mid-18th-century al fresco French dining.
In today’s world, a picnic can be something as simple as sandwiches and soft drinks on the sun deck by the sparkling Villas at Carrington Square pool, or as over the top as an Insta-worthy luxury picnic delivered by companies specializing in creating memorable experiences. Picnicking In Overland Park
There are plenty of places for you to plan your own picnic in Overland Park, including by the water at Regency Lake Park and the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, both conveniently located to the Villas at Carrington Square. Visit Overland Park is a great resource for info on both of these locations and more!
Grilling & Chilling
Of course the Idea Specialists™ are going to have some suggestions for you when it comes to picnic-appropriate food and drink!
First, though, check out this awesome Picnic Time combo BBQ Kit Cooler from Target they found. In addition to its large capacity for ice and drinks, it features an eight-piece stainless steel grill set that includes everything from tongs and a spatula to a cutting board and corkscrew. And because of its shoulder strap, it’s imminently portable—thus perfect for a picnic at the community poolside barbecue area. Sweet!
Before you head out to wherever you’re going to spread your picnic blanket, whip up a to-go pitcher of this luscious Summertime Rosé Tequila Sangria. And depending on what you’re in the mood for, maybe one—or four, or a lot more—of these Pioneer Woman picnic foods. Cowboy caviar, loaded potato salad, chef’s salad on a stick, and blueberry bars all will go with whatever you decide to grill—ribs, chicken, burgers, YUM.
Summer’s Bounty
The Villas at Carrington Square Idea Specialists™ will absolutely or sure be heading back to the Overland Park Farmers’ Market for some more homegrown tomatoes now that they’ve seen this Garden & Gun magazine article for delicious recipes for everything from tomato pudding to cracker salad. They’ll be taking that salad, and some green tomato chowchow, on their picnic, for sure.

Interested in a summer movie? How about the beloved classic, Barbie on Saturday, July 13th at 9pm?
Join us for a magical evening under the stars at Overland Park’s newest 1 million square foot location. Bluhawk is located at 7951 W. 160th Street, Overland Park, KS 66223! They are having an outdoor screening of the beloved classic, Barbie. Bring your own chairs and get comfy in the grassy area between “Jinya” and “Of Course” for a night of fun, laughter, and nostalgia.
Google Fiber Installation is HAPPENING NOW …
You may have noticed several flags around the grounds. Please do not disturb or remove the flags as they are designated utility markings for Google Fiber. They started installation at our community on June 24th. Watch your email for notices of when they will be entering your home. You will not be required to sign up for Google Fiber but installation in your home is required by ownership. They shouldn’t require access to your home for very long. They have asked us to remind you that they will require that you clear the area in your master closet so they can access the existing cable box to expedite installation.
