June brings the joys of Father’s Day and the summer solstice to the Villas at Carrington Square, an upscale apartment home community in South Overland Park, Kansas, along with the opportunity to join with others in the community and across the country in a show of support of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month with purple ribbons and purple clothes.
In fact, a google search about initiatives of the Alzheimer’s Association reveals that one of them—The Longest Day®—encourages people to “outshine the darkness” of Alzheimer’s disease with a fundraiser of their own choice in connection with the summer solstice, the day of the year with the most light. This year that will be Thursday, June 20.
Understanding Alzheimer's & Dementia
Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. It is not considered a normal part of aging, but, rather, a progressive disease. There is no known cure.
Alzheimer’s Association-Heart of America Chapter provides resources and support to all those impacted by the disease.
Sharing Stories
Sometimes personal stories can help us understand a medical condition that hasn’t affected us directly.
